Background
Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is widely used in Paediatric home care, but not ordinarily used clinically with acute patients. This workshop aids in learning safe usage of NIV in an acute setting as well. This workshop combines lectures on principles of NIV and clinical hands-on workshops for NIV care.
Why attend?
Non-invasive modes of ventilation are being increasingly used in acute care settings and are becoming more common in-home based settings as well. NIV is particularly challenging in children because of the size of the patient. Understanding the various options, equipment, modes of delivery, effective monitoring, and analyzing failures will definitely go a long way in providing this care more effectively with less failure.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize indications for NIV
- Setting up and initiating NIV and to titrate the therapy
- Identifying failure of NIV and need for invasive ventilation
- Introduction to various NIV interfaces
- Introduction to NIV machines
- Ventilator NIV
- BiPAP
- Bubble CPAP - installation of the device and titration of therapy
- Heated humidified high flow nasal cannula therapy
Highlights of the workshop:
- Interactive Hands-on training on various NIV machines and live demonstration.
- Hands-on training on machines
- Case-based discussions
- Manual on NIV
- CME credit hours
Target audience:
- Critical care physicians
- Intensive care fellows
