Neurodevelopmental Disorders in My OPD - Early Pickup and Beyond!

It's time for all hands on deck!! We are all aware that the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) in children has reached an alarming level in the last decade. We also know early pickup and right intervention will go a long way in improving a child's developmental trajectory and thus long-term prognosis.

With such an exponential increase in concerns regarding child development and behavior, it is a minefield in the Pediatric clinic to determine which concerns are significant and which are not. Hence, many Pediatricians feel they are unable to help children with NDD effectively in their busy OPD. This is simply not true!

Clues! Clues! Clues!

That is what every detective thirsts after, be it Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot. Of course, children don't come with a diagnosis to our OPD. They come with varying symptoms and signs. A mother casually saying her child is too active or too stubborn may be completely normal or may have a developmental disorder!

In this workshop, using a symptom-based approach and common case scenarios, we will discuss how to tease out normal from delayed or deviant development, guide you regarding common developmental screening tests, and teach early intervention strategies which can be easily used in daily practice. You will also understand when to refer to a Developmental Paediatrician for further assessment and assistance and how to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team with regards to the ongoing management of the child with an NDD.

Let us all come together and improve the outcome in children with NDD. Their tomorrow depends on what WE do today! This workshop will benefit every medical professional who sees children, to be confident in their approach to developmental dilemmas in children and more importantly, refer to appropriate professionals early to ensure maximum benefit. In fact, all that may be left to be said is, 'It's elementary, Watson!'!!
